Lake Nakuru national park
Lake Nakuru was first gazette as a bird sanctuary in 1960 and upgraded to National Park status in 1968. A northern extension was added to the park in 1974 and the lake was designated as a Ramsar site in 1990. The foundation of the parks has made the area more popular for huge flocks of Flamingoes and alkaline water.
Attractions
The park is blessed with a variety of bird species since it was first gazette as a bird sanctuary then later changed to a national park but still bird species do exist, the waters lake Nakuru that yield the most evocatively beautiful photo images in Africa. This park makes it a grate ideal for day trip, and an enroute to other destinations. Picnic spots. The park is Kenyans first and largest rhino sanctuary, sightings of both black and whit rhino, while plentiful waterbuck, warthog, zebra, gazelle and buffaloes, leopards. Therefore come and reach the Worlds best bird spectacles on earth (shimmering mirage, flamingo realm).
Location:
The park can be found in Central Kenya, 140km north-west of Nairobi, in Nakuru District of the Rift Valley Province. It covers an area of 188 km2.
Access
The park has a tarmac road connection with Nairobi; it’s a 3 hour drive. The most commonly used route into the park is via the main gate, 4 km from Nakuru city centre.
. Accommodation facilities include; two main lodges and several campsites that are public and privately owned.
Time to visit; visit any time thought the year its always fun, and cache up with well facilitated accommodation facilities; like Banda’s (Naishi Banda’s),lodges(lake Nauru lodge and sarova lion hill lodge),special campsites (Naishi,chui, rhino, soysambu, nyuki and reedbuck), and public campsites(makalia and backpackers).Activities in the park are Game viewing and bird watching.
